Waverley Council: Waverley Greens oppose Hugh Bamford Reserve depot plans
Posted by: Chris Maltby on Friday, January 15, 2010 - 10:00 AM
Greens Activities The Greens are opposed to Waverley Council's plan to rezone the Hugh Bamford Reserve to enable industrial development. There is no immediate need for the Council's current depot at Zetland to be relocated.

Elected Greens on Waverley Council and in the NSW state parliament are working to ensure this irresponsible project is scrapped. The Greens are also concerned that the NSW government is putting pressure on Waverley Council to relocate its depot from Zetland to North Bondi to accommodate its Green Square redevelopment plans.

Greens Activities

Wollongong Council and the Illawarra’s corrupt developers have featured prominently in this year’s “Toasters” awards for bad development, hosted by NSW Greens MP Sylvia Hale.

Corrupt Wollongong developer Frank Vellar took out the coveted “Golden Toaster” as the Bad Developer of the Year for 2008.

The sacked Wollongong Council, which has had ICAC corruption findings made against eight former Councillors and staff members, was named Worst Council.

“I can’t think of any developer in the history of these awards who so richly deserves the title of “Bad Developer”, said Ms Hale.

NSW: Boston rail report shows need for more frontline staff
Posted by: Lee Rhiannon on Friday, October 10, 2008 - 10:05 AM
Transport Greens MP and transport spokesperson Lee Rhiannon says the findings from the Boston Consulting Group Report on RailCorp services support increasing front-line staff and cuts to management positions, as this is the key to clean, safe reliable train services.

"Removing front line staff at a time when patronage is sky-rocketing makes absolutely no sense," Ms Rhiannon said. "Reducing staff will only compromise the ability to cope with increased commuter demand for rail.

NSW: Treasury Secretary's 'cringe' requires Premier's correction to AAA blooper
Posted by: John Kaye on Friday, October 10, 2008 - 09:20 AM
Money NSW Treasury Secretary John Pierce has left Premier Nathan Rees with little choice but to retract his gross exaggeration of the costs of a change to the state's credit rating, according to Greens NSW MP John Kaye.

Mr Pierce told a NSW Legislative Council Committee yesterday that he 'cringed' when he heard the Premier of NSW claim that losing the states' AAA credit rating would result in a $500 million a year interest payment blow-out.

Global: Bush's banks plan - who will benefit?
Posted by: Nouriel Roubini on Sunday, September 28, 2008 - 12:00 PM
Money

Is Purchasing $700 billion of Toxic Assets the Best Way to Recapitalize the Financial System?
No! It is Rather a Disgrace and Rip-Off Benefitting only the Shareholders and Unsecured Creditors of Banks

Whenever there is a systemic banking crisis there is a need to recapitalize the banking/financial system to avoid an excessive and destructive credit contraction. But purchasing toxic/illiquid assets of the financial system is not the most effective and efficient way to recapitalize the banking system.
